During the 2024–2025 academic year, the Advisory Committee on Investor Responsibility (ACIR) convened regularly to carry out its charge of advising the Yale Corporation Committee on Investor Responsibility (CCIR) on ethical issues related to the University’s investments. The Committee’s work is guided by Yale’s ethical investment framework and focuses on evaluating concerns raised by the community.
A key event of the year was the ACIR’s annual open meeting, held in November 2024. This meeting is designed to give members of the Yale community the opportunity to share input, raise concerns, and ask questions about the University’s ethical investing policies. The 2024 open meeting was well attended, and the ACIR heard presentations on investment-related topics ranging from fossil fuels to military weapons manufacturing.
In addition to its engagement with the community, the Committee continued its regular work throughout the academic year, including making voting recommendations on social responsibility proxies in accordance with University ethical investment policies. More information about Yale’s proxy voting guidelines is available here. It also made a recommendation to the CCIR to update the university’s assault weapon retailer policy, which was adopted by the Board.
Looking ahead, the ACIR remains committed to facilitating community input and continuing its responsibility to evaluate investment-related topics in line with the University’s policies and the guiding principles of The Ethical Investor.
